After some confusion about locations, we were forced to switch spots (for reasons out of our control) to Sackville Landing, a 4-minute walk from the old site. The new site had a bigger stage and a more closed off area (without a church).
Once again we decided to keep the line up completely fresh with no bands that had played before. This was the first Tumbleweed with bands outside of the Maritimes. We had Gash and Maximum RNR from Toronto, and The Mad Bomber Society from Edmonton.
The event at the new site had a promising start. There were so many more people then we’d ever had for the time. But we really couldn’t have asked for 3 perfect days for these events so it was bound to rain and it did at about 7pm. It rained just as The Hemingways started.
We put garbage bags over the speakers and did what we could. It rained for about 10 minutes with a pitch-black sky overhead. We were forced to call the rest of the event off. It pained us very much to do so but we couldn’t risk anyone getting hurt, or the risk of rain coming down harder and ruining our gear.
Not only did it pain us to see all our hard work come down before it was done, but it hurt us more to see that it was a relatively nice night for the rest of the evening with no more rain. Little did we know, it was the weekend of Hurricane Juan. |
